The Darfur Association in the United States of America (DAUSA) was founded in 2001 before genocide ever broke out in Darfur.
It started as a purely social and cultural group in Birmingham, Alabama. New chapters sprouted across the country and, when genocide dawned, they joined to create a national association.
Under the leadership of Southern University Professor Mahmoud Braima, the Darfur Association in the USA is a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization.
